Some of the things we do:

plants + fabric

We get to know the plants around us, from local trees and subtropical plants to familiar finds in the supermarket, and learn which parts have historically been used to dye animal and plant based fabrics. Through natural dyeing and pattern making, we create unique textile pieces while sharing stories rooted in our diasporic cultures and relationships to plants. The goal is not only to make something beautiful, but to plant a seed of curiosity, encouraging us to look a little closer at the plants growing in our own neighborhoods and wonder what stories, colors, and possibilities they hold.

botanical ink and pigment making

We paint with colors gathered from trees, flowers, seeds, soil, and other natural materials. We learn different processes, from simple techniques to more elaborate ways of making plant colors, while learning about the ethnobotany, histories, and properties of the plants around us.

Through free painting, pattern making, and group exercises, we connect to our emotions and creativity while getting to know other species and the stories they carry. The hope is to leave with a little more curiosity about the plants growing all around us.

clay

Clay becomes a way to shape ideas, creativity, and stories. We get to know the soils of South Florida while also making space to imagine, play, and create characters and worlds of our own.

Using clay and other nature found materials, we build textures, details, and little stories with our hands. It is a chance to connect with the land while letting curiosity and imagination lead the way.

Cooking

Cooking is an art form and a way of connecting to the many cultures that live around us. We learn about foods, prepare them together, and share them around the table.

Cooking becomes a space for conversation, storytelling, and reflection on where our food comes from and the systems that shape it. Most importantly, we make space for the simple and powerful act of eating together, something worth preserving.

We get to know the fibers growing around us and step into the art of papermaking, a versatile medium that can take on so many forms depending on the fiber we work with.

We work with both natural and recycled fibers, experimenting with texture, shape, and process, and add botanical inks to bring color into the paper. A hands on introduction to a material that can become almost anything.

creative writing

From making songs about local trees to turning favorite recipes into poems, writing becomes a way to connect with others, spark meaningful conversations, and tap into our creativity.

We play with language, learn about nature, and revisit memories, finding new ways to tell the stories that connect us to each other and the places we call home.

nature walks

Let’s walk together, slow down, and feel the moment. We use all our senses to connect with the spaces around us, because observation is one of the best ways to learn outdoors.

Walking together in nature gives us a chance to nurture our relationship with our surroundings while noticing the many ingenious and sophisticated ways nature creates, adapts, and solves problems. We walk, observe, wonder, and learn from what is already there.

Buenezas collaborates with schools, libraries,

museums, community organizations, and private clients to design meaningful learning and creative experiences.

Each program or event is intentionally crafted to connect authentic participants with art, nature, and each other, whether in classrooms,

community spaces,

or outdoor environments.

How We Collaborate?

Every project begins with listening. We work closely with our partners to understand goals, audience, and space, then design experiences that are engaging, adaptable, and meaningful.

Collaboration can include co-facilitation, artist partnerships, and program customization.
